Ostrava is proud of its industrial history which is reflected in a fascinating and extraordinary architecture. Many factories are still a busy workplace, while some are gradually settled by artists, actors and musicians and serve as a unique background for exhibitions, shows and festivals.
But there is a hidden side to Ostrava's rough metal exterior - you can find many cafés, pubs and bars here. Another contrast to Ostrava's industrial history is the abundance of green areas. Just look on the map and you will be surprised of how much green you will see. Plus, you will find a lot of mountains nearby this large city. You can enjoy a wonderful view after climbing the slag-heap called Ema. And if you do not know what a slag-heap is, well, that is just one more reason for you to come.
